Power Supply

Good Morning~
My power supply fan is whizzing and singing to me.....So, at this point I need to buy a new power supply......

I have never done this before and am in need of some help, please

Here are the spects to it........

I am really not sure what all this means.....I tried switching it out with my daughter old one and it did not work correctly.

PS My computer is mainly used for internet, email and playing Everquest.
Any and all suggestions are greatly welcomed, please!

I would like to try and stay under $50.00 for the fan if at all possible.

I am on EST, I live in NJ, USA.......I was not sure how much the fan I would need, so 50 sounded right to me..... I need the whole fan unit thing...the big silver box that you plug the electric cord into.....

if you get a new psu, there is a good deal on tigerdirect, an ultrax-connect 500 watt psu for 40 bucks after 30 dollar rebate...very good indeed, considering that psu costs int he 90s ont he manufacturer's website

The PS you suggested on tirger direct, it will work with my computer, correct?

...a psu is not like dual channel ram, or a sata hd...it works. period. no matter what configuration the comp has...unless...you need a mid tower to full tower case for this powersupply. Its good in that you only attach the cables you need.

Can you just lead me the way, please.....I will link what mine looks like......ok, can't find a detailed one so let me explain to you what it looks like...~
It is about 6-8 inches long and about 4-6 inches wide...It has the plug in the back for the electric, a switch 115V and the fan. Inside it has red, blac, yellow wires coming out of the box....they go to the HD, CD-Rom and the mother board, there are also 2 sets of wires that are not being used.

Yes they should all fit your computer,is your computer a dell or gateway?was it made for you or did you buy it from a shop?Do you have the manual lying round? If your psu is at the top it is probably atx,its just a standard companies all work to,so all the stuff fits together,dell/gateway and a few others dont work to this standard.

If your comp has a number on the front eg dell dimension 3000,post the number we can find out if its atx or not.

 

that psu is ugly man...i love the fact that in ultra x connect,...there are NO ANNOYING LITTLE CONNECTORS...all the wires feature a nice plug you just fit onto the devices...and there are is no cluster of wires at all--you only connect the ones you need. vere easy to use, and very quiet and properly cooled. And i dont know what your talking about the reputation...ultra has very well known power supplies...

I love that psu,I would have had one if they had brought them out in the uk sooner,I'v only seen rave reviews of it,its the best lookin psu out there ATM,have you seen some bad reports of it?

 

Great PSU and high quality build, havn't heard a bad whisper bout it.

 

Hmmm,looks like some wires have got crossed somewhere,but anyway $39 for it?I might buy one for the heck of it,try and get it shipped to the uk,if I never see it or my cash again its only about £30 with shipping.

umm...we're talking about power supplies here, not fans...and of course its different...if you want a good psu, get the Ultraxconnect from tigerdirect or the enermax from...nvm, get the ultra.

Thanks for allthe information. I finally got a hold of the guy that built my computer. He went over tigerdirect with me and we ended up getting the JPC 350-Watt PSU.
And I also bought a Diamond Stealth S85 Radeon 9250 / 128MB / PCI / VGA / DVI / TV Out / Video Card.

Again, thanks for all your help!
I am sure I will be back when I get these peices and get stuck!
