Power surge problem?

I have an imac connected to a Belkin power strip which I guess had surge protection since it has a red light next to the word "protected". Also attached to this power strip is an ill-tempered Tivoli Model One radio which crackles and crunches and drifts off stations. It has its good days though, and on one of those days I had it on and it made a really loud POP! so I turned it off and have left it off since. I noticed later that day though that the bluetooth in my imac was dead. I checked batteries and all in my keyboard & trackpad and tried other steps that didn't work so I know for sure it's kaput.
Here's my question - Is it possible that the radio caused a surge that traveled to the imac and burned out the bluetooth? Does a surge protector only protect what's coming from the outlet, and not necessarily referee fights between neighboring devices? I suppose it could be my wiring (old house) but the Model One is the only thing giving me attitude. Hope someone can enlighten me a little. Thanks!

It depends on the make and model of the surge protector. Some have additional protection for your cable and phone. The protection rating, in Joules is also important. The higher the better. Unfortunately, the outlets that you plug your devices into are "ganged" so, any "backlash" from another device isn't blocked. If you don't want your iMac damaged any further, I'd pull that Model One and plug it in to another separate wall outlet AFTER it's serviced. It sounds like there are some bad filter capacitors inside of it
