Using this pc for a month with no problems. Normal shutdown last night. I poweredup today, and within a minute it turned itself off. Tried several more times, each time lights and fans came on, then it turned itself off within a few seconds.

I checked wires, connections, turned the power strip off, then on again. Now it doesn't shut itself down, but neither does it boot.

The power button light on front panel is blinking
    No visible boot-up.
Monitor checks itself (Setup), then goes blank black

Could a bad power supply do this?

    Hi Airsh0w

    Thanks for the help.

I monitored the temp with Everest, and never noticed any overheating problem. Plus this happened after it had been sitting idle all night. Though that was my first thought when it shut itself off almost immediately after boot. Nothing felt hot to the touch when I checked the connections.

The power switch is a rube goldberg job set just inside the case. I wonder if static charge from my hand may have shorted something out? I've heard that's possible.

My husband has a spare power supply that we can swap out tonight. I'm just trying to find other possible avenues to explore in case that doesn't work as I'm in the middle of a big project with a deadline which is stored on that pc (of course!). I have backup files, but it would take me a whole day to reload all the software and files I need for my project onto another pc. Not to mention, I don't have another one at home right now.

Is it overclocked? If so back it off.

Something else to try>If it is XP.

To start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature, follow these steps:
    1. Start your computer.
    2. When you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message, press the F8 key.
    3. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
    4. If you are running other operating systems on your computer, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows XP, and then press ENTER.

    See how that goes.
