    Hi all first time posting sorry if this is the wrong section wasn't sure whether this was hardware or software related, my computer specs are as follows;

    Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1
    System Manufacturer: K8N62
    System Model: K8NF4G-SATA2
    BIOS: Default System BIOS
    Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3400+, ~2.4GHz
    Memory: 2048MB RAM
    Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce 9800gt
    Available OS Memory: 2048MB RAM
Page File: 1430MB used, 4116MB available
    DirectX Version: DirectX 11

A little bit about my current setup first, i have 2 hard drives, one running off ide with an xp install on it (master) and the one im using currently which has a windows 7 install on it and is a sata drive, the reason im still running xp is games are unplayable on my windows 7 drive as the fps is half of that or less when running xp (not sure why maybe due to windows 7 having larger system resources even with aero turned off and me having a single core processor).

Now to the root of the problem, we have a meter for the electric so when it runs out everything goes off in the house, I usually keep on top of this and if its running low turn the computer off but I missed it this time, I had the primary drive with xp running at the time, and upon rebooting the system panel next to the clock in the bottom right hand corner showed only 3 icons when usually theres about 8, upon closer inspection it wasn't recognising theres a video card inserted, reinstalled drivers but no avail, also theres no network connection and all usb devices except the mouse have no response whatsoever to my computer, I looked in device manager and the 4 connection devices, vga, usb and 2 others but i cant remember the names of them and cant locate it while im in windows 7 have yellow triangles on them with exclamation marks.

I tried right clicking and updating drivers, windows does the manual or auto search prompt and I choose auto to which it responds with something like can't find the relevant driver, sorry for not having the right words but cant have both this open and check at the same time.

I have tried putting in a different ide cable, but it had no effect, the weird thing is it isn't my mobo connections that got fried as everything works perfectly on my 2nd hard drive which im using currently, but I really can't use this for gaming and I'm aware that a fresh install would probably work on my first hard drive but would like to try fix it without doing this as I have alot of data on it and no backup devices big enough to store this.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried a system restore?

Hey sorry about the delay been busy with alot of work, I would try that but I don't have the original xp disc as I'v had this rig for about 7 years now, which is why I decided to go for windows 7 on my newer hd big mistake I know as running a single core processor and wanting to play games...

Is there a way to run restore without the disc?

If I am understanding correctly, on the XP drive your USB and network adapters show exclamations right?

If so, I would right click on each one of those devices and uninstall. then I would right click on the root Computer listing at the top and scan for hardware changes. Hopefully it will rediscover those pieces of hardware and that's the end of it. Let me know

Hi thanks for getting back to me :)

I'v tried that as you instructed and after i manually uninstalled them all i scanned for hardware changes and they came back up with the yellow exclamation marks next to them, tried to update drivers and just got the error couldn't locate on all 5 of them (it's five not four), I took a couple of screenshots while i was logged onto my other hd hopefully it will shine a light on whats wrong.

Also I noticed I had antivirus running and 1 other program in the system tray when i right clicked it I got 1 short beep from my computer if that helps.
