Powering On: Sometimes it Does and Sometimes it Doesn't

Hi everyone,

Just recently I've started experiencing powering on issues with my computer. My system worked great, and all of the sudden this happens.
I just turned on my computer this morning without a hick-up. But last night I had to push my power button a couple of times... it would get started, power light came on, fans running, etc... then after a few secs it would shut down. So then I tuned off my PSU in the back, turned it back on, and the PC finally powered on.

Anyone know whats wrong with my PC, especially, that I didn't make any software or hardware changes and worked perfectly fine. Is it aging, circuits burningh out, a bug crawled in? or anything else?

 

Assuming that when it does power up you get a single POST beep, I would suspect your power suplly unit is starting to fail. Replacing them is fairly straightforward and not too expensive. But I would like to be sure that was the problem first. Have you tried the obvious first - like trying a new power lead?

 

Also open it up, and clean it out.

Last night, when I turned on my computer... I got three beeps. Looks like I there's something wrong with video card or memory. Anyway, I opened up my system and cleaned it out. So far it started with out a hick up. We'll see what happens. Looks like its probably time to upgrade or get a new system and use this one for another purpose.
