I Have been using power point viewer 2003 . I notice that there is a 2007 version. Is there any advantage to downloading the 2007 version? I am running Microsoft XP and do not have power point itself.

    Hi

There is no harm in not getting it as it will work with presentations done in Office97 ~ Office 2007 Powerpoint, plus it will have some fixes over the older version.

Main advantage is that PPV2007 will open PP2007 presentations whereas PPV2003 will not, so if you will come into contact with presentations done in PP2007 as this is slowing being used, then you cannot open those in PPV2003.

The fact that PowerPoint Viewer 2007 is about 13x as big as the 2003 version (comparing the file sizes of the installation packages) might actually be considered as a disadvantage.

The setup process and the functionality (menu functions) seem to be identical. I'd say use the 2007 version only if you like wasting disc space, or if you really stumble upon a ppt file that the 2003 viewer can't display.

If you look at it that way at least the PPV app is alot less in size and price than using Office 2003/2007 Powerpoint at 46mb for core app only, not including the various templates etc! so that could also be classed as an advantage, especially in the price catagory.

Swings and Roundabouts though and I agree if your not going to come into contact with Office 2007 PP files then you have no need, but as Office 2007 becomes more popular, many users may forget to change the new office doc formats to compatible ones with older office applications, and wasting space these days on a multi GB hard drive, well 25mb give or take is not much concidering many have applications they never use on their HD, not to mention the junk littered in the temp folders. Run CCleaner and your likely to remove at least 100MB+ of junk, now thats wasted space.
