Hello. This should be no problem for the veterans online, but it escapes a humble novice like myself. For the most part, I use my PC's (AOL 2Meg ADSL) internet connection for filesharing and online games such as counter strike, HL2 etc. I want to optimise performance, because at the minute my connection's really underperforming, particularly on P2P apps (limewire pro, bittorrent and warez). I heard that using a different browser can free up system resources and that I can choose this instead of AOL if I connect via PPPoE. I was wondering how to do this, and if it was possible to utilise my connection with no web browser at all. Any advice or other suggestions to optimise performance would be greatly appreciated. :D

You can try something like this http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2104.html to tune your connection. You're going to want to double check your max MTU as I seem to remember aol non-standard numbers.

As for browsers, you just log on to aol like normal, then minimize it and open whatever browser you like. I don’t think that will save much in the way of resources for you though.
