I just CRASHED hard. I was checking some posts this morning and I got a "pop-up" from my system tray, I think, telling me to update my Java. It was from Sun, which is what I am using so I followed the directions. It D/Led and installed and then asked me to restart. I selected "no" because I was busy. I finished what I was diong and manually restarted. Now Windows will not boot, no way, no how. In normal, it just keeps restarting over and over. I am running XP Pro SP2 and it gets as far as the black screen with the Windows XP Professional logo and the scrolling bar for maybe 5 seconds and then flashes a BSOD very quickly and then restarts. I tried all 3 Safe Mode options to no avail, they restart while loading drivers. I tried "Last known good gonfiguration" and that does the same as normal start. I finally selected "do not restart on errors" option and it stopped at BSOD, phew! Any way here's the info from BS: PQV2i.sys, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, Tech info: *** STOP: 0X00000050 (OXE1940000, 0X00000000, 0XF989F444, 0X00000001) and *** PQ2i.sys - Address F989F444 base at F9896000, Datestamp 41a27b9c. Does anyone have any input on this?

I am not sure if anyone has any on-target resolution for it but for now here is (briefly) what you will have to do:
The cause of this problem is the file (PQV2i.sys which is the Virtual Volume Imaging Driver so I am assuming you have used some sort of a drive imaging utility on this system?
This file is located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder and needs to be renamed or deleted then replaced with a good one using Recovery Console.
You will need to use the 'Recovery Console' especially since nothing else seemed to work for you. To find out more on how to use the 'REcovery Console, see this link.
Good Luck and repost if you need further help.

PS, also see this link that could give you some help.

OK thanx, I recently installed Norton Ghost and backed up my PC. I also ran LiveUpdate yesterday and it installed an update for Ghost, must have something to do with that, I'll work on it, thanx for reply Turk :D

I got in using the repair option and deleted the PQV2i.sys file. Windows starts now, but the file is missing and Norton's Ghost is not working. I can't find the file on the Windows XP Pro CD to replace it. Is it a Norton's file, and should I re-install Ghost? Not sure what to do now

Yes, I do believe PQV2i.sys comes with the Program that uses/installs it. Mainly different Symantec programs use it so I would suggest re-installing the program that is not working, also try re-installing that program WITHOUT Uninstalling it first so you do not lose any of the registry keys or program settings you might have modified.
    Good Luck.

OK, I checked those links. The thing is that all info in them pertains to V2i Protector 2.0 or Drive Image 7.0 and my problem is with Ghost 9.0. Is this the same file??? I checked the Symantec site all over for PQV2i.sys relating to Ghost and all I could find was a readme that says it installs that file

To my understanding it is a 'virtual drive driver' file that is used by common imaging programs made by different vendors.
    Have you tried RE-installing Ghost?

Yes, I re-installed ghost, but haven't restarted PC yet, see how it goes later. I couldn't do it without uninstalling first, so I lost all my backup info, hope the backup file on other pc will still work? I won't live-update Ghost this time and see if it is the Ghost update that crashed it or whether it is SP2. Thanx for help, Ray :)
