I just heard my friend and former boss was in a wreck this weekend and is in Frenchay with serious neck and back injuries. They are operating tomorrow. Her partner, who was not injured, was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's, is having to cope with it all again, as they were both in a motorcycle accident in which she nearly died some years ago.

It's terrible and I dreaded the day something like this would happened back in Old Blighty and I would be miles away from it all to help and support. Those of you who have a relationship with God - please pray for them. Thank you.

So sorry to hear that news Lev :(

I hope the surgery is a sucess, its tough being so far away from friends to give personal support, but they will know you are thinking about them with positive thoughts.

Thank you guys...it means a lot to me. I am sending her partner e-mails to let him know they are both in my thoughts. I hope he is well enough to read them. Thank goodness for e-mail, huh!

This comes after a really difficult and stressful 4 weeks with our 20 year old son, who has had a really rough time of it.

My boys get here from England for 3 weeks on Wednesday. Something I am really excited about and looking forward to through all the tough stuff.

I know, being 18 and immature, i call everybody man. Sorry, hope i didn't offend you. Look at it this way, at least i didn't call you dude. Trying to stop, but i still call my mom dude and she has to remind me too that she's a girl.

HAHA...noooo..not offended.......just wanted to make sure you knew. A lot of peeps think I'm a guy because my nic isn't indicative and I ride motorbikes. There's a few other reasons too but we won't go into those, dude..... ;)

Lev...........They are both in my prayers and so are you. It is hard to know someone is going thru troubles and you are so far away.
    Take care girl.

Add my prayers to the list Lev. For you as well as them. It's hard having friends in need and not be able to be there.

On a brighter note: Hope you have a good time with your sons. :)

Prayers & well wishes being sent your way and across the pond Lisa! I know how hard it is being so far away...you are a little further away than I am from my family and friends but I have been in your shoes and it's awful! Especially when you are the type of person like you and I are that not only wants to be there but needs to be there with whomever is ill.

Hang in there...even if your friend can't take the time to answer emails I'm sure both of them can feel all the love, support and prayers you are sending their way. *HUGS*

Thank you Abby, that means a lot when someone understands :)

They operate today and I am still waiting to hear. She is in ICU, and I'm not sure how concious she is, but I shall call later and see if they can give her a short message. I'm e-mailing through another friend, so while she is great at keeping me informed it is terribly frustrating at being so useless to help.

I just want to be over there so bad right now. This is tearing me up....

    Hello Lev,

I'm so sorry to hear about your news :(, it is hard caring about someone and not being able to be near them.

I'm sure they know that if it was all possible you would be right there by their side, so try not to let that eat you up, you've got to think positive and have faith that things will turn out for the best.:)

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thanks for all the support guys.

I am waiting to hear how her surgery went.....8 hours time difference makes things a little awkward in getting real-time responses. I will keep you posted...thanks for asking padams.

I called Frenchay ICU this afternoon and spoke to a staff nurse. My friend is unable to comprehend messages, although they said they would still pass my message along, just in case she is able to understand. I don't know if that means she is unconcious, in a coma, drugged up for her own benefit, or severe head injuries, or a combination of all of the above. They never tell you much unless you are family, and they probably told me more than they should when I explained my circumstances.

Ack. They told you just enough to get you more worried than you already were Lev.

Original reports were severe neck and back trauma, which don't automatically imply cognitive disorders. Until you hear something definite from somebody, you WILL consider this to be sedation due to the pain and the surgery. That's bad enough, and is a very likely scenario, but it a lot better than some of what they've got you worrying about.

Don't borrow more worries than you already have love.

Thank you everyone......greatly appreciate your support.

Came in to work this morning hoping for emailed news, but alas, none yet.

GT - You hit the nail on the head. I am trying to remain positive and think this is a drug-induced state, but it isn't easy. Especially since the surgery was Tuesday and now the UK is nearly done with Thursday and there is still no news.

Do they operate on people when there is no cognitive response? I really don't know enough about this delicate detailed stuff. The nurse said they couldn't be sure she was cognitively aware at this stage - wouldn't they know that if it was drug induced? As you can see, my head is spinning....

On a happy note, my boys are now here with me and I'm taking tomorrow off work for some time away and much needed R&R.

Thanks once again guys :) *Hugs*

A huge thank you to all of you who have prayed for my friends and I. News today is that her unconcious state IS drug-induced. They are now starting to very slowly reduce that medication, after successful surgery this week. They are hoping sometime next week to move her out of ICU into a less-intensive room. Not sure of the long-term prognosis at this stage, but the immediate developments are quite positive and her condition is now considered stable.

Again, thank you to all who have been so supportive. Please keep praying for Jacky's recovery if you would.

Yup..it is good news. First step on the recovery ladder. She is a very strong and positive thinking lady. If anyone can turn this situation around, she can. I can't wait to see her again at Christmas when I fly back.

Thank you again everyone....I can't begin to let you know how much this support means. You geek-guys rock :)

Thank you everyone for your ongoing prayers, support and good vibes. It's all very welcome!

Latest news is that Jacky is now minimally sedated and they hope to have her out of Intensive Care by the end of the weekend. She is trying to mouth words, but can't, due to tubes, but she is smiling and in good spirits. That's so Jacky...always smiling, even in the face of adversity. Her partner Paul, who was diagnosed with major health issues earlier this year and was also in the accident, has been able to get to see her everyday, which is fantastic news. I was really concerned he would not have the support required to be able to make this happen.
