Preparing to configure Windows stuck

Last night we had a couple of updates get installed. The image is attached and the ones in particular are 01/12/2011.

Today I had no less than 5 users when starting the machine, prior to the prompt to login, they get the message "Preparing to Configure windows, please do not turn off computer" and it would stay there for some of them an hour.

Now we just hard shutdown, and restarted normally and got through, but i'm wondering if anyone has any information on a security update from Windows causing this crap?

 

I don't know what caused it but i had the exact same problem last night and also had to hard shutdown, after re-start it ran normally.

This is why I never install updates on on day one. I wait for a couple of wwels and let others blow up their machines first.:-D Mind you, MS's track record has been impressive over the years.

 

Well, we manage our updates through WSUS, but if they are security updates, they do not have to be approved before pushing to workstations. That's why these went through.

 

anyone else having problems with this still? had a few more users this happened to, but not finding much on the net about it all.
