Okay, so I hate Vista. It irks me. Irrational, yes, but I have decided to move back to an OS that I like. The problem is that I keep hearing horror stories about downgrading a computer that came with Vista to XP. The computer in question is an HP a6030n, which is still entirely stock, but will not be when I am done. My plan is to install a new graphics card (BFG Tech NVidia 6800GS) and sound card (generic), and then install XP SP2 Pro. Any pitfalls I should look out for?

The main problem would be getting HP drivers for XP for that particular model. But since you'll be used non-HP video and sound cards, you shouldn't have too many problems. Just be sure you can get drivers for your network adapter, modem (if you still use dialup), and your chipset (should be an easy one to find) that will work with XP. Do this BEFORE you format the drive and install XP.

Well, thank you for your advice... The chipset driver updated without a hitch; unfortunately, the onboard LAN adapter (Realtek RTL8201N) does not have an XP driver that I can find. Any advice from anyone on this before I hare off to Best Buy in order to purchase a cheapie?
