Presario1800 Retrofit and new notebook

Would like to retro this 1800 for a new life. Needs larger HD (6G currently) and better OS (Win98SE). Understand the BIOS is very limiting and I need to increase the RAM (~384Mb now). Anyone have suggestion where to get a how-to on this project. Is it worth it? The unit is in near perfect condition. The display is still great. Even used this for AutoCad (2000) in the field and it has been a nice laptop. No real bitches. PhilliePhan just helped get rid of some spyware bs problems it had but other than that is has been a worthwhile purchase and paid for itself many times over. I would also like to get a new unit for a new project with all current hardware that is also CAD capable as well as mmedia, wireless,...for technical sales, without having to take out second mortgage. Thinking somewhere around $1250.00 Any suggestions or warnings???

 

Laptops arent really upgradable...that is one of the few downfalls of them. The hard drive, ram,and os are the only things you can upgrade...besides that...you may be SOL.

 

Thanks for the response. Rolled over and bought a new laptop but would still like to revive this one (online with the unit now). Any suggestions glady considered.
