Hello,

I am very much a novice when it comes to coputer hardware. My stepdaughter has a Compaq Presario SR2011WM with Microsoft XP Professional. When the computer boots, it is v 3.17. Recently, it has just begun to shut down (and sometimes reboot) on its own. The computer power light stays on, but the monitor says that it is receiving no signal. I've tried CCleaner, Avast virus scans and other types of fixes, but would only stay on for a certain period of time, then shut down. It seemed to be fixed yesterday, because it stayed on for a couple hours. But, after leaving and returning to the house, I found it powered down again. This morning, when I tried to power it up to see if I could fix it, it has frozen up several times at various stages of the boot up.

Any ideas?

 

Could be heat related, clean the fans, esp. the CPU.
