Press Shutdown-Nothing happens, press restart-nothing happens ARGH!

I have an IBM Craptiva here, Celeron 800mhz, 256sdram, etc with Windows XP Pro Corporate (fckgw).

The OS suffered a registry failure that i repaired by doing xp reinstall repair function. then i ran the sfc command. I have scanned for viruses with up to date avg and norton system works, all clean.

Basically when you press Shutdown or Restart or Standby .. nothing happens. The pc remains on and you can load stuff etc.

the APM is enabled. It wont even shutdown from pressing the power button either.


ANY IDEAS ANYONE?
