    This is the spec sheet.

A friend of mine purchased some RAM for this laptop and asked me to install it for him. It is giving me no shortage of problems.

It lists the maximum supported ram as 2gb. It previously came with 2 512mb sticks of RAM. He had already a single 2gb stick, prior to doing any real research or asking me to help him. Has he made a mistake? Does the max RAM for a motherboard typically assume you will divide it equally among the DIMM slots or should it be fine running a single 2gb stick(of appropriate specs) in a single DIMM slot.

    Cheers.

It depends on the computer. Some insist on matched pairs while others do not.
Go to www.crucial.com and put in the brand, make and model of the computer. You will get a box telling the specifics of the memory and whether it requires matched pairs.
