    Hi everyone,

I was given a 32GB Pretec i-Disk Bulletproof USB 2.0 Flash Drive on 31st July 2010 as a birthday present, I asked for one of these because they had been recommended by The Gadget Show on Channel 5.

Unfortunately the drive has developed a fault and I keep getting I/O read errors, I have tried it on 3 different computers, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 and it will not work on any of them. I cannot format it on Windows either via the operating system or in DOS it always fails and now every time I plug it in, I get a message telling me this disk needs to be formatted before use.

Can anyone advise what else I can try please?

    Ron

    Hi

Personally before trying a few methods or applications to try and format the USB Pendrive I would contact Pretec's support and ask for advice on this as they may send you a new one as your not the only one thats had these errors with this make of drive.

Thanks for the replies, I have tried everything on their website and their own repair software, nothing worked so far.

I have also contacted their customer service and they haven't replied yet, on one website someone mentioned they eventually got a reply after several weeks. The custom contact on their website comes up with a page not found when you submit a question

Here's another thread on a problem with the same brand but a 16GB drive

2nd page, the last post, the OP used something called URescue and was finally able to use the drive. Sorry but I don't know the program and the OP did not post a link.
I've searched a bit and all I see are warezz sites and mentions of malware so I do feel comfortable posting any links to this unknown program.

Thanks, I have tried that (it is the software pretec sends out) it didn't work, only gets to 30% on my drive then it tells you it has been successful and to unplug the drive, when I do that, I then get a window telling me this drive needs formatting before it can be used, that's where I get stuck, nothing works

If anyone knows contact details for Pretec in the UK it would be appreciated.
