I'm sure this will be easy to answer for you guys, as I'm a simpleton when it comes to this stuff.

I just purchased a new laptop, and I want to transfer my files over from my current one. I figured I'd just copy them to DVD, but others have told me getting an external hard drive would be a more effective option.

If this is true, and considering that I will probably not need to use it for anything other than that reason, and that I'm on a budget, what would you suggest I go for?

    Great. Thank you!

One more silly question: How can I determine the total size of the files I want to move? :-o
