My older brother uses a password reset disk to reset my password and go on my computer when i'm out with friends. Are there any ways I can prevent this from happening? Thanks.

It really depends on the disk, but no, usually theres a way around it. Is it possibly to lock the room the computers in? like is it a bedroom or what not? Probably the easiest way to do it is to discuss whats going on with parents/owner of the computer.

My dad also resets my password once in a while so i dont think he'll be defending me anytime soon.

I hope I am wrong about you...I dont think you are 18yrs old yet and there has to be more to your story than you are letting on.

In your request you still live at home the dad and brother only access your computer while you are out with friends and they are only breaking your password to access the internet and this is the only reason you want to prevent them from using the computer internet access bull.....

Sorry kido... what ever it is you have been doing or have on your computer you dont want them to find is probably the thing you shouldnt be doing....

If you have nothing to hide set them up with their own user profile...

I'd say the bios password is good, but also set it to boot from HDD first before you lock it.. so no other floppy, CD, or USB can bypass Windows boot. I'd agree with the poster who said take the hard drive.. that would be the closest to 100% secure you'll get (close, because you've got to find a good hiding place for it)

They can generally be easily reset, back-doored, or cracked...in desktops at least.

I think I would just edit the boot.ini before I went out to point it at the wrong partition, having made a (XP?) boot floppy first. Anyone turning on the pc would then be faced with a non booting pc and and error message.
I could of course boot it with my floppy any time.

A novel approach & not a bad idea...but if the guy's savvy enough to get around an admin password, he might be skilled enough to try a boot floppy too...
