Primary sound driver

i know a reinstall will fix this(i think) but i don't really want to reinstall :cry

anyway... here is my prob

out of nowhere my sound card stopped working, couldn't reinstall the drivers, or nothing. checked driver manager, didn't even see my sound card. so i took it out and cleaned it off, when i restarted the sound was back, yay right? not so...

tried to play far cry again, but had no sound again. checked winamp and it was working. checked the log of far cry

anyway... i have no Primary Sound Driver apparently?? well i uninstalled then reinstalled the sound drivers, worked this time, but still no Primary Sound Driver.

so my question is why don't i have a Primary Sound Driver? weird huh..

HL2,ep1 and 2 sound works. B&W2 sound works. Simcity 4 works... wow works, Stalker works..

Soundcard is a pci maya 5.1 from audiotrak, on windows xp sp2

 

a small update for thos who are reading this...

reinstalled windows and still no Primary sound driver, i guess its my sound card or something...


is there anyway to add a Primary sound driver setting? or anything that will make programs that use Primary sound driver use my sound cards driver?

 

If I understand you right.....you have media player sound and game sound, all except for Far Cry.
Far Cry would be the problem, not your PC drivers.
Did you un-install and then re-install Far Cry? You can do this without losing your saved levels.
Did this happen after making any sound changes to Far Cry?
Did you try other sound settings?

wasn't really just far cry, i noticed allot of weird sound coming from allot of games i played. anyway i fixed it i guess...

i had some spare time on my hands and just took apart everything and cleaned them off, when i restarted i had to reinstall a driver or 2, but sound works like norm again... weird.... i guess being on 24/7 for 3-5 years ain't doing any good lol
the hdd alone hasn't been off but for a blackout for over 6 years, still runnin fine tho
