Print Monitor??

I am trying to install a Lexmark X1270 printer/scanner for a friend but when I try I get this error message.

Printer driver was not installed. The specific print monitor is unknown.

She is running Windows XP Home Edition SP2 and the printer is hooked up through a USB cable. It has a Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.00Ghz & 192 mb of RAM.

I don't have a clue what a print monitor is and Windows XP Help and Support section was neither help nor support.

I have the disk but it has been no help.

Not sure about that error, try this, uninstall your printer software, unhook the usb from pc, reinstall printer software, then hook up usb and let windows find it. ed

I tried but got an error message that said:

the printer can not be installed successfully unless it was connected correctly.

Is the printer connected via its USB cable to a USB external HUB or directly to a motherboard or PCI card USB connection?

If the HUB, some printers do not like HUBs so connect only to the USB slots on the motherboard/PCI USB card.

May also be a good option to follow these instructions to clean up the print drivers, in case of older driver or files causing issues.. this guide is good http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm then re-install.
