    Hi,

I have win xp pro sp2 installed on my workstation that connects to the net via a belkin wireless network card to my laptop which is always on. I have recently purchased an A0 plotter and A3 laser printer noth of these are connected by serial ports, so have also purchased a PCI 10/100 NIC a D-Link DP300 print server and a crossover cat 5 cable.

My problem- I can connect to the net perfectly. I have my network card installed with the up to date drivers, no conflicts etc. I have tried to allow the device to obtain an auto IP address but when it does it produces a 169.254.83.*** I have ipconfig /all and noted that the wireless card is set at 192.168.0.***. I tried the winstack thing, also the reg entry along with microsoft patch. I have manually configured the device to connect with the 192.168.0.*** range, when I do this the connection says connected but am unable to access the print server. When I delete the manual entry and let windows configureit, I get the usual limited or connectivity icon!

I have turned off firewalls including microsoft, disabled antivirus, all antispyware etc.

I have just tried the manual config again and it showed connected, I opened my server admin program (PS admin) it shows the print server there, but when I try to configure via the program, I get NO RESPONSE. Could this mean the print server might be at fault, or is there something I am missing?? Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Your network description is a lil sketchy...
    What does DHCP for you?
Where is the print server connected?
    Some router/access point?
Or are the PCs peer to peer?
Your description is that your desktop has net access via the laptop wirelessly?

Also the first step of the Belkin install guide says "First step, insert one end of the straight-through CAT5 ..." you claim to have a crossover?

What "device" is set to auto obtain an IP?
