Print Spooler / Adobe Air

Hi. I'm posting on behalf of my Dad. We could use your help. Below are snippits of his questions...

Dad was about to print a Hotmail (Outlook) e-mail message that he had received, but the computer gave him this message:

Windows cannot connect to the printer.
The local print spooler service is not running.
Please restart the spooler or restart the machine.

He restarted everything a couple times, nothing. (I'm assuming he re-started both the computer and the printer)?

What is a "spooler"?

Thinking that he had an update on "Adobe Air", since then, no printer.
He's wondering if he should uninstall the Adobe Air.

Have you checked the control panel/printers and faxes for the presence of a printer driver? If you do not see anything in this folder, you will need to load the printer driver into it.

I don't think Adobe AIR should in any way interfere with a printer / printer spooler.

Anyway, AIR is just an RTE; if there are no AIR applications on that system, there is no need for AIR. (Certain Adobe applications - Creative Suite, Creative Cloud - may require AIR for the installation.)

Dad just messaged me and said he's got the printer working again. A re-installation of the printer did the trick.
