Print Spooler Issues

A few days ago I posted an issue regarding only one laptop within my home network of 4 computers, with 'Devices and Printers' not showing the printers that are physically connected to another computer on my network. I then posted a fix I located through an internet search... enable the Bluetooth service. As I stated at the time, that made no sense to me, but it worked... so I went with it. Well... it worked all of two days <grin>.

Now... I “think” I have found the real culprit, and it's a problem with the Print Spooler. I have found a work-around, but don't know how to permanently fix it. Every time I reboot, I need to 'stop' the Print Spooler and then restart it. If I do that, I see the printers in Devices and Printers and can print from any application. If I don't, all applications 'Stop Responding' when I try to print.

BTW – I need to stop & start the Print Spooler in a SPECIFIC ORDER. Change startup setting to Manual, Stop, change startup setting back to Auto, Start, Apply, OK. If I merely start and stop the Print Spooler Service, it won't work. I have now rebooted several times, and need to follow these exact procedures in order to print.

Does anybody know how to clean/clear/re-install the Print Spooler? I've never received an actual Print Spooler error message. I just stumbled onto the above fix by trial and error. But every time I start and stop the Print Spooler in the manner explained above, it fixes the problem. As I also stated in an earlier post, I've gone through all the Malware procedures in that forum and believe I have a clean system.

    Thanks

    Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?

But I would try this app attached below, as I have used it in the past to clear printer spooler issues.

Long winded way could be this HERE (should work for all Windows versions)

I'm a bit perplexed with the reply. I have no print jobs running or stuck. The procedures explained don't seem relevant.

    Hi

    You posted

Hence my option of the app that will try and clear the printer spooler.

You can also try this below as this will clear the spooler folder in Windows, may help with your issue, also a complete uninstall and re-install of your printer drivers could help, especially if you had installed different printer drivers over the years.

    • Click Start, click Run, type Services.msc in the open box and click ok
    • Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list
    • Click Stop and then click OK.
    • Click Start > Run, type %WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers and hit enter then and delete all files in this folder.
    • Click Start >Run, type Services.msc and click ok
    • Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list.
    • Click on Start...In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected and click OK.
    reboot and test.

Thanks, but unfortunately it did not work. The folder was already empty in both the first app you suggested and in the steps I followed in your second post.

However, when I followed the procedures I explained in my opening post, everything worked. Problem is... I need to follow that procedure EVERY time I re-boot in order to print from any application. Very strange... and a pain in the neck.

What if you just set the print spooler to Manual? Does that help at all?

    Unfortunately, that doesn't work either.
