My family's home computer recently stopped printing, for no apparent reason. There is an error that the "Print Spooler Service" is not working. I've tried going into Services and restarting the Print spooler, and setting it to start automatically. After that, the computer at least recognizes the printer that's connected. However, when I try to print anything, the spooler service stops again, and the computer no longer recognizes any printer and won't let me add a printer either. We have Windows Vista Home edition, and I've seen some threads though searching Google about the problem, but most were for XP and simply suggested restarting the spooler service, which I've tried numerous times with no success. Any idea what would cause this problem and how I can fix it?

I fixed this problem with my machine today:
    Do this:

    1. Open registry editor
    2. Make sure that you backup your registry first, then
    3. go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\spooler
    4. Double click DependOnService
    5. Delete all values in box
    6. retype RPCSS
    7. Click OK...then close registry editor.

    Restart your machine.

    Hope this helps
