This should be quick but your my last chance.
I have PIII, 550mhz w/ a almost a gig of Ram running Windows XP Home on.
I've come into possession of Brother WL-660 laser printer which brother only provides drivers for up to ME.
My boss, who gave me the printer, swears there is a way of running the printer by going through DOS but I don't see how. I thought XP effectively did away with DOS by complete integration/
Is there a way of tricking my system into running this printer?
    Thanks!

DOS is still alive and well under Windows Xp.....somewhat.

If your printer is on Lpt1, where they used to be connected, then you could send a text file from a Command Window (DOS prompt) with a command like:
    copy document.txt Lpt1
    or maybe: type document.txt LPT1

I've never done that....because although I used to be in the printer service business, we didn't have to deal with XP in those days. Every laser and dot matrix printer would print from the print command in DOS. All my printer test routines were in DOS.

I don't have any printer connected to my current computer via the LPT1 printer port, or I'd test this out for you.....sorry.

I'm surprised that new mobo's even have a printer port on them any more. Everything is going USB. I'm not totally sure that's progress.

To find a driver, you might try the HP Series II driver. That's worked for lots of different printers. Some lasers would even respond to Dot Matrix drivers from IBM or Epson.

    Good Luck,
    DrRoms
