Printer driver won't install, get the following error................

Hi all,

I was asked to have a look at my neighbours Fujitsu Lifebook A series laptop (Win 7 sp1) as he was trying, unsuccessfully, to install an (old) Epson Stylus Photo R300 series printer. I ran a scan on Malwarebytes, then tried both the installation of his Printer via the Epson CD (without success) and installing while in Safe Mode, again without success. Each attempt resulting in the following message being displayed: Program cannot be executed due to configuration problem. I also looked on the Epson website for an updated driver but this model of printer is no longer listed for support, presumably because it is about 12 years old? He insists that it did run successfully up until mid Feb this year, so I thought lets try a System Restore to just before that date. Unfortunately there are no Restore Points listed before 1st March. Can someone assist us, or is it a case of buying a new printer? Thanks in advance for all helpful suggestions.:banghead

 

Thanks for this, I'll get him to try it. However, he does say that it used to work O.K. on this machine. He started getting problems with his printer (don't exactly know what the problem was), but he uninstalled the printer and tried to reinstall to hopefully solve the unknown problem and now he can't get it to successfully load the printer driver.
Any other likely causes?:confused

The driver for that printer is included in Windows 7. The drivers on the CD are for Windows 98/ME/2000/XP. Here's a link to the instructions for your friend.
