This has been driving me crazy trying to find a solution to this...

A couple weeks ago I tried to print something. What I didn't realize is that there was a cd underneath the sheet of paper I was printing (no clue how it got there...) and the printer fed the cd in with the paper. The printer jammed unsurprisingly. Since then, the printer will not print in black. Color works fine and there are no error messages. I have tried to align the cartridges to no avail and HP tech support is providing no help. I'm sure that the cd pushed the cartridge out of place, but I have no clue how to fix it. Any advice/tips? By the way it's an HP Officejet 4500 Wireless. Thank you all.

Don't have any little ones running around, do you? I once found a pop tart in a VCR one of my sons tried to "play" :-D

Doesn't sound good . . . obviously there has been some physical damage.

I'm not sure how the cartridges are configured in that model printer, but you could try a brand new black one and see if the damage done was to the cartrige itself, and not the carrier the cartrige sits in. I do know the copper contacts on those cartridges are, by and large, pretty fragile.

    Good luck!
