I started this problem in the hardware section but have now discovered enough clues to think it should be here.

I have a wireless network of two PC's (laptop running Vista and a desktop running XP) and a HP C6180 printer. About two weeks ago I started having problems printing. I could print ok for hours from either printer then after a bit I couldn't print from either. I have been able to correct the problem by turning the printer off then back on. Unfortunately, within a day or less the problem reappeared.

Last night, when I was having the problem, I printed the Printer Configuration Settings on the HPC6180 and the channnel was 0. After turning the printer off and on, I reprinted the Printer Configuration Settings and the channel was 6 and I was able to print. This morning, 8 hours later, I checked the Settings again and the channel was again set to 0 and I couldn't print. I turned the print off then on and channel got reset to 6 and I could again print.

So, it looks like the printer loses the channel setting between it and the router after a bit. Anyone know what I can do to correct my problem? Until this problem recently started, I have been working error free for over a year with no change in my network onfiguration.

access the printers web interface by typing the ip address in to your address bar on your browser ex:http://192.168.xx.xx
that gives you a way to check the settings and/or setup your network.
