Printer must be turned off-on to print.

Odd thing just recently started with my HP C6180 All-In-One printer. It is part of a network being utilized by a laptop with Vista and desktop with XP. I have had this configuration for a long time.

I can print from both PC's without a problem then after no printing is requested for a long time (hours but less than a day -- best I can narrow it down) all printing from either PC's fail. It order to get printing to start again, I turn the printer off then on. Printing will work again without problems until that unspecified time period elapses.

Anyone have any thoughts on what I can do to eliminate this problem?

I found some HP maintenance (fixes) for printers that I installed on both PC's. Unfortunately, the problem still exists.

Any help would be appreciated.

It seems as though possibly there is a setting on your HP C6180 that is causing it to go into a standby/sleep mode, in which your unable to print until you shut it down, and bring it back up. Have you checked your manual which came with HP C6180 to see if there is such a setting? (Power saving mode)

Thanks for the response Elder. Actually that was the first thing I thought about. But, there is no such setting or function that I can find for this printer. If there was a sleep mode, it would still be an odd occurrance since I have had the printer and this setup over a year with no problems.

One thing that I can recall that happened about the same time this problem started was me applying maint to both PC's that included the new IE8 stuff. I don't want to say that is even remotely related to this problem but thought I should offer the information.
