Printer not found Xerox 390

I have downloaded the 'proper' drivers for my old printer from Xerox, on my old XP machine. The Install Helper will go to the folder, but not find the drivers. They are zip compressed. I try to unzip them, with Winzip or auto xp zip thing, but I have no folder to point anything to. Printer had correct date before being plugged in (in storage for long time). It registers as new hardware, and has yellow ! in Device Manager, just not sure how to install the drivers.

Here are the EXE driver versions for your machine, delete the zip ones first before installing these.

Did you read carefully the installation instruction

about driver

I can see where you had the problem. The file that gets downloaded refused to unzip to the C:\ drive because of another exe file in that zip file. I extracted the zip file. Please find it attached. Unzip it to your desired location in an admin account. This folder will contain an inf file. Right click on the printer in Device manager and select update driver, point it to that inf file in the folder you unzipped. Also be sure to remove any previous drivers. This is probably the same problem as the scanner driver. If this works for you, I will step you through the steps to get the scanner driver working as that driver is too big to attach here.

 

Ok, yea, I saw that. Got it, so it loads, printer shows up, but (scanner not installed yet) it wont print. Will try scanner driver, hopefully I get a ($10.00) laser printer today!

 

Ok, software seems to be all installed, restarted, printer will print a test sheet from the printer, and it seems to read the send job, but nothing happens from PC. printed out a test sheet (from printer alone, not computer.)

Says PC-Print for 15 seconds when I send the job. ]

May try Parallel cable instead.:cry So close but yet so far.

How do I figure out which port the parallel port is? I thought you weren't supposed to use Parallel with a Laser!!????

Friggin $10.00 Laser Printer!! With an extra drum, and on ebay, they sell for $20.00 bucks!

Not sure why the guy who sold it gave it away. its been sitting downstairs for 5 years! Just kicks right in!!

Glad you got it sorted out. Good work on the Parallel port. I thought this was the only option on this printer. What were you using initially instead of the parallel port?

 

I had some old USB cord that I had laying around. It fit, and it showed up on the computer and all?//??:confused
(maybe its 2.0, I don't have that capability on my puter.)

Only problem now is that it grabs all the paper in the tray, but its cheap paper, not laser printer paper.

One bad thing is that there is no ON/OFF button, its always on. I guess I will have to get a surge protector for ON/OFF. It says power save, but you know its sucking juice$$$ when its off.

Yea, big fugly Parallel cord, and it works just fine!
