Win 7, Firefox, HP 6740 Officejet
Printer has 7 items in shoe, one is error, .
Printer not responding to print commands at all, is connected via WiFi (WiFi light blinking as usual.)
    Ran quality diagnostic, looks clean
Turned off, restarted, still no. Ran print job 2, 3 days ago, all OK. Made no hardware/software setup changes
    WTF?
    Cross posting to software

You should try and answer one problem at a time. You now have three different help threads where answers have been posted but you haven't responded.

    Is it blinking orange?

  5. Skysarge

No, only the blue one by the WiFi symbol

Have you checked your ink cartridges? HP is notorious for not printing if the ink is low.

Make sure the Access Point is on.

If the access point is what I think it is, mine resembles a flash drive, has no on/off switch, and it simply plugs into my computer. Mine has a light that blinks intermitenly.
My computer is tied to my cable TV which has its own modem.
And if I come across as not knowing how to determine the answer to your question, that is likely the case.

You are using a Wi-Fi dongle (transceiver).
Run the program that installed the first time you plugged in the device.

Also, check Device Manager. Any problem devices?

Checked device manager troubleshoot, learned for some reason my printer was not listed as default printer (only one I have). I reset it to be such. Backlog in shoe (?) printed. Set up different page from computer to print, all went accordingly.
Still do not know why the HP was not default printer, I never changed anything about it after first installing it, have not added any additional printers. But, it works and, as is said, "that's the bottom line." I now have a working printer again,, and a whole lot of copies of a couple of items I was trying to print.
Thank you for your help. And, score one for the good guys.

    What is this shoe?
If you only have one printer, it will be the default.
In Windows 7 you will have have additional printers - virtual printers like Fax & Microsoft XPS Document Writer.

I suspect shoe = queue. (A shoe is used at a gambling table it doesn't have a thing to do with printers.)
If there is an error in an item in the queue, you won't be able to print a thing until you clear out the queue.

Use the snipping tool and take a screenshot of devices and printers. Add it as an attachment to your post.

I am curious as much as anything as to why the need to attach to my post. I followed the suggestion in #11, which cured my problem (#12) Since that posting, I have set up and printed several other documents with no problems. And thanks for correcting my misuse of the term shoe. I thought I had seen "shoe" used in conjunction with computer printing

I wanted to see what the devices and printers section of your computer looked like. Specifically, what bit of hardware had taken over the default for printing.

I have "ghost printers". This is so I can print to pdf. If that would be selected as the default, the pdf would not spit out of the printer but would be located somewhere within the computer files.
