I am not that good with Apple - I am a PC guy.
A friend of mine has an iPad and a Canon Pixma MG2450 printer, but no matter what she does, she cannot get them to communicate!
    Any tips?

According to this page, the Canon Pixma MG2450 printer is a Windows only printer. There's no support for Apple iOS.

I stand corrected. According to the product specs, Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later is supported but, there's no mention of iOS.

Printers don't support operating systems. Operating systems must support printers - via drivers. So the problem is the iPad is not seeing the printer, not the other way around.

While the printer maker normally makes the necessary drivers, there's no financial incentive to do so if there are not enough users of that OS to dedicate the necessary resources in development manpower. It is just not economically feasible when there is no return, or worse, there is a loss on the investment.

Apple knows this and that is why they developed AirPrint. But even Apple, the world's richest IT company, won't dedicate the resources to add and maintain support for every printer made. Sadly, while there are dozens of Canons supported, it does not appear your MG2450 is one of them. :(

That said, there is some information here on how to print to non-supported printers that might be worth checking out if printing from this device will be a common requirement.

About all I can suggest for her now is to transfer/email these documents to a device that uses an OS that does support her printer.

Yeah, according that list of supported printers, AirPrint does support the MG4250. So that seems like the way to go.
