Printer not showing up.

ok this is alittle weird for me because i never had it happen.:confused I fixed a ladies computer afew months back and everything was fine after i hooked it back up but about a week ago she was moving stuff around and so she moved the computer to another part of the room. Well the printer would not work so she called me up and i took a look and found the USB cable was bad. So i give her one and as soon as i hooked it up i heard that sound that it connected.. Well i thought it found it but when i tried to test print it could not find the printer. So i look in control panel and its not there so i go to add the printer and the setup window would not let me select the Local printer button it was grayed out and it would only let me select Network printer when i know theres no network. anyone got a clue?


Windows XP home SP2
printer is a Lexmark
and its a Compaq and thats all i remember what it is

 

Try putting in the driver disc that came with the printer, if you don't have one, go to the printers website and download it.When you download it 1st save it to Desktop, you can then install it on your PC and then burn a copy for later use if ever needed again.

If you can't find it through the printers website, then Windows update might have it.

 

if the spooler service isnt running, then no printers will show up.
