Printer only prints partial pages

Have an HP 3930 printer. Prints fine from webpages or from mail .
From WORD or OPENOFFICE,NOTEPAD, or WORDPAD will only print top line or three, then the left margin markers, nothing else rolleyes = or will print nothing at all but run the paper through sounding like it's printing , or will do same but print only emoticons :cry :confused........
Seems a software issue to me :cool, inkpots are full and well cleaned.
Reinstalled software, no gain, reinstalled printer, no gain.
Am running WinXP Pro 32 bit
Any idears? :major :cool

Plodr, done everything on the list twice except try the printer from another computer - gonna do that soon, but am a bit of a shut-in. I had this happen with a too - new Canon printer and a Win 95 computer - same symptoms, but I sure can't recall what the fix was.
