Printer problem?

Hi. I hope this is the correct place for this question? I have a HP psc 2110 printer/scanner/copy machine. I turned it on and the display said Open door and clean cartridge jam. After a few times removeing and cleaning the cartrages and
the machine doing its testing and coming back with the same message. The plastic strip that looks like it should be behind the cartiges just poped off on the left side and is sticking out the front of the paper tray. It is still conected on the right side. It looks like it has a small slot on the end and and sits on a tab? Is there any way of takeing the lid/scanner apart so I could get in there and try to put it back on the left side with out damageing anything? Also does that plastic part have to go through/touch any place on the cartridge tray/holder?
