I'm running Windows XP professional and a CanonLBP5200 laser printer. I get a pop-up window:

    "spoolsv.exe

Instruction at "Ox7c9111de" referred to mamory at "Oxfedcba98". This memory could not be read"

    Any ideas, please?

I got the same type of message, except it was Iexplore.exe. I have 2 questions for you at this point: Did you recently or at anytime install Ram? And 2: Do you have Google toolbar?

    Hi, Higara7

No and no. I also find I'm getting different sets of leeters that can't be read

I hate to ask obvious questions, but it can effect virtually anything. Have any good malware scans lately? What spyware protection do you have?

Ask away. I've got Zone Alarm with Ad Aware, Spybot and A Squared, and Antivir. I've updated them all about two hours ago and run them as well.

 Hi. Does sound like a possible memory <chuckle> problem. I am going to go way out on a limb and assume you have a decent amount of RAM memory, say a minimum of 512 MB. If not, probably time to add some if your mobo has room. A couple of things come to mind. 1) go into your printer property sheet and turn off spooling. In other words, select the option to send the job directly to the printer. 2) uninstall all printer drivers and related software, run a registry cleaner app, reboot into safe mode, make sure all other apps are closed and reload your printer drivers and software (OCRs, printer toolbox, etc.). Good night and good luck.

    Sloopy99,
Thanks but I've got a gig of RAM. For the rest, I'd tried everything you suggested except turning off spooling.
Now I've done that as well, but no good. Looks like a hard drive format, I think

    (What's a mobo?)

This type of problem CAN indicate a problem with the RAM, but I'd FIRST suggest that you download the latest driver for your printer, then uninstall the original driver, REBOOT THE SYSTEM, and install the new driver to see if that solves your problem...

I'm suggesting that you locate and download the latest driver, even if you've done it recently, because your existing driver might have been corrupted during the last download, and you'd have no way of knowing that.

If you're STILL experiencing the same problem AFTER you update the printer driver, you might want to take a close look at your RAM. Of course, you should follow all normal static precautions if you decide to do this...

First, I'd suggest you remove all of your RAM, then check to make sure none of the DIMMs have any physical damage (check the gold-plated connectors CAREFULLY). Also examine each RAM slot with a flashlight to make sure the slots are undamaged, and free of debris.

Next, install only one DIMM, reboot the system, and try to duplicate the error. Since the Spooler service was indicated as part of the problem, this might still be directly related to the printer.

If the problem reoccurs, shut down, remove the DIMM, and replace it with a different stick of RAM, then reboot and test the system. Doing this with each DIMM will help you decide if one (or more) of the DIMMs are defective.

If you CAN'T duplicate the problem, shut down and swap DIMMs, testing each one in turn. If the system works properly with each single DIMM, you can install two DIMMs at once, then test the system again. If everything works properly, you've probably solved the problem. If not, one of the DIMM slots might be defective. In that case, you'll have to boot the system with a single DIMM, moved from one RAM socket to the next, until you find the culprit...

Good luck with this; be persistent, and you should be able to narrow this down fairly quickly...

BTW, mobo is American Geek / Techie Slanguage for "motherboard"...

    Mal,

Thanks, mate. I'll get stuck in to it immediately. And thanks for the translation.

Good luck with this; you might not be out of the woods just yet, so please let us know how things turn out for you; I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you can nail this down pretty quickly.
