Printer software, Flash player won't load

After we reinstalled Windows last week, I've done all the Protect yourself from malware stuff on the sticky posts. No I've tried to load our printer software and it says it won't run because I have AutoRun disabled. Also, we cannot get Flash player to download/install either.

Any suggestions? Not sure how to re-enable AutoRun to make this work (or should I not do that?)

Put the printer CD into the drive, then Open windows Explorer and click on the CD drive. In the right pane, you will see all the files on the CD. Find one that is probably labeled setup.exe. Click it and that will launch the wizard to install all the printer software.

As a note: autorun turned off is secure, let it remain off. Every time you need to install anything that comes on a disk, explore it until you find the setup.exe. Clicking that will start the install.

As far as flashplayer: what happens when you go here http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ ?

    What browser are you using?

I'm now using IE8 after reading that it is maybe a bit safer than FF. I was finally able to load Flash Player when I logged in as an admin and it loads it to the admin account, but not the limited accounts we use for surfing. Not sure how to fix that except to temporarily make those accounts admin, download Flash, and then make them limited again.

I did search for the setup.exe the first time I tried it and it wouldn't load. I did not disable AV software as it suggested because I am sure I did not do that before. Maybe I need to do that after all.

Fixed the printer issue...I was not logged in as an admin to start the set up. That's okay, but still can't get Flash Player loaded on the limited accounts we use to surf the net.

Please can we get some more information from you?

    1. What version of windows are you running?

    2. Have you created custom limited accounts or are they the default built-in account types?

And just for your information, these days no one browser is more secure than another. Internet security is down to the user, not the browser. If you visit strange sites then expect to be infected, whatever browser you use.

Oh, and never disable AV software to install a program unless you trust it completely, and then only do it if you are physically disconnected from the internet, by removing the phone line or network cable from the computer. There is normally no need to disable AV software anyway.
