After a power shutdown my coworker had a problem getting her computer to start but that got cleared up bu now nothing shows up in "Printers & Faxes" or by using "Search". I have tried to download drivers and update drivers with no success. I have also gotten messages that the printing spool is missing and that no printer is installed. She has an emachine with XP

Anyone have any ideas on what we can do?

Not sure if this will help:
    Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services.
Scroll down to Print Spooler, check to see if it is set to Automatic and Started.
    (Right click>Properties to change it)

    Thanks for the quick response.

Tried this and got message, "Could not start Print Spooler on local computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start."

    Any other ideas?

Go back to the Print Spooler service properties again and click the Dependencies tab. These also need to be started.

I went to the Dependencies tab and after clicking on it I found a couple of components which didn't do anything when I either right clicked or left clicked.

    What now?

Sorry, Ron... must have missed your post.
You will have to look for and find each of the services, listed in Print Spooler dependencies list.
They will be in the main list of services, (Where you found the Print Spooler service.)
Make sure they are Started and set to Automatic.

I fixed this problem with my machine today:
    Do this:

    1. Open registry editor
    2. Make sure that you backup your registry first, then
    3. go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\spooler
    4. Double click DependOnService
    5. Delete all values in box
    6. retype RPCSS
    7. Click OK...then close registry editor.

    Restart your machine.

    Hope this helps
    J
