Hooking it all back together after moving, was running smooth before, now it's like it's clueless (like me) as to what I want from it.
This is the message that comes up when I try to print, anything, test, nothing.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
The print spooler was unable to connect to your printer This can be caused by your printer being turned off, the cable being unplugged, or being connected to a VPN, which will block your access to your local network.

Your document will print when printer becomes available.

    OK

both computers are on an Actiontec router/ DSL. The printer is HP all in one 7310 I affectionately refer to as (the big ass printer).
I could sit here for hours and finally get it, but it seems if it worked a couple weeks ago nothing changed except location, it should still, right?
I even ran the networking wizard, (no body tell Tim).

    WIZARD!!!! Arrrrggghhh. (LOL).
Walk us through it all ....you have two puters ...one has the printer attached and the other has the printed installed? as a network printer. You have the drivers installed on both machines. You have it as shared on the one that it is physically attached to ....you have the exact same user accounts on both machines and have accessed those accounts at least once.....
What is the status of the printer on the one that is trying to connect through the network?

Now it's telling me to reinstall the software, took some doing but found it and am going to try that now. Let you know how it turns out. And who told you???? LOL

Well still not working. I put in the CD and it downloaded something, said I had the latest. I'm thinking of reinstalling everything and redoing it but theres so much linked to it. Seems to have an awful lot of icons in the printer section. Note the extent of my tech knowledge is the word icon.

Whats a VNP it might be connected to?

    Virtual networking protocol.

In your network properties, do you have printer and file sharing installed?

What is the status of the printer on the one that is trying to connect through the network?

Go to start / printers and faxes / right click on the printer and check all the properties.

It's hooked into the router direct, one of the Ethernet plugs on the back.

    Well now I don't know.
I thought it was, unless it's the cord from the other computer. I'll have to pull furniture out to check.
The printer keeps telling me I have to run the software but I did that already.
Maybe I should uninstall everything and start over, ??

I can't even find most of this stuff! Driving me nuts here (short trip I might add). It wasn't that complicated before. I used the Network setup wizard for the sharing, named both computers all that, installed the software for the HP 7310 all in one big ass machine and it basically did it itself or told me what I needed to do, which was (like hit the easy button) install the software on CD.

Yes the printer is hooked into the router and so are both computer cords.
Now the darn thing is trying to dial a connection (have DSL) I keep changing it but seems to revert back.
I don't understand why it worked great, moved it, hooked it back up and it became evil.
I don't have settings, even changed the view to classic, no difference. Can access documents from both computers. Printer not working for either at this point.
So, thats where I am, been up since 3 am, theres a post in here from a guy with a hummer who might use it to fix his, beginning to sound sensible to me too.

Plug the printer into one of the computers ....not the router ....print a test page to be sure it is working ....then go to the other computer and hit add a printer ...networked ...search for printer ...when you find it, it will install.

TimW - The 7310 is a networked printer. I don't believe printer sharing is required.

On page 11 of the HP 7310 user guide it walks you through the installation for Windows. Did you follow the instructions? Its a networked printer so the installation is a little more involved but the HP supplied WIZARD should get you going.

Uh-Oh someone else said the wizard word huh? Actually I got it going. I reinstalled it on both computers and when I did I discovered it needed a filter, so hooked it into the phone line with a filter. Worked fine without it before, good grief. Anyway got print from both computers, haven't tried anything else as yet. Thanks so much. See ya in the funnies, :D
