Printing Wirelessly

Hi, I have an HP 7310xi All-In-One Printer, which does not have wireless printing capability. I understand from the HP forum that the only way to conduct wireless printing is to connect the printer to a wireless router, which apparently is then connected to the home Internet gateway device. Is this still true? Or is there some way to just connect a device, like the router, to the printer alone? My gateway is in an entirely different room than my printer. Thank you!

 

As long as the printer is on the same network as your wireless device, it should detect it and print to it. That usually means, the home wifi network. If your printer can be connected directly to your wifi router, then that should work; if not, then you will need to connect the printer to a pc/laptop which will then be connected to the network, and then set up the printer as a network printer.

 

blujay, thank you. 2 more questions. if i connect a router to my printer, will the router pick up the network from the gateway device? also, my pc is connected to the printer - how would i add my laptop as a network printer? and when i print from my laptop, would my pc need to powered on? thank you!

 

If your gateway device is your main network hub then yes.

yes your pc would need to be on to print to the printer as a network printer.

Follow the manufacturer's wizard when installing it. Usually a network printer option can be found on most printer installs these days.
