I have an Hp Deskjet 5740 printer, HP Pavillion Computer with Vista Home Edition. I've had trouble printing documents in Publisher since I installed Publisher 2007. The documents aren't located in the right place on the page, consequently about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the page doesn't print. Even in print preview, you can see where it is cutting it off.

HP says I need a new driver but the driver is not compatible with my computer and the only solution is to buy a new printer.

The printer worked fine with Publisher 2000. Microsoft tech's can't find the problem.

    Any ideas?

    Hi and Welcome

I feel you have missed a small bit from your post above as I dont see a question as yet on what the full issue is apart from guessing Publisher 2007 doesnt print on your HP printer?

If you get any error messages please do tell us what they are exactly as displayed, these will help narrow the cause down?

I'm new at this and hit enter before I was finished typing my question. Second attempt:

Hi missed your edit while posting, no problems at being new, we all have to start somewhere and I have a habbit of hitting enter quickly as force of habbit.

Double check in Print Properties that the paper size your using is correct, at times the default is set to Letter and this is different to A4 or Legal, depends on the paper your using, also try adjusting your margins in Advanced to see if that can compensate.

Strange on the driver not being compatible as HP have a Vista driver for that model Printer! http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&dlc=en&product=357202&

If your getting install issues with the driver try right clicking the installer/setup and choose Run as Administrator, or if you get other errors with the driver do let us know.

If I go to that link I get the following message.

    Introduction
The driver solution for this product is included in your Windows Vista operating system and is already on your computer. There is no need to download anything . Follow the steps below to quickly and easily get your product working with Windows Vista. ***

I don't have any trouble downloading because I can't find a driver to download. When I spent two hours on the phone with the HP tech he mentioned some .dll (or something like that, can't remember the extention anymore) but said that's what Publisher 2007 needed and my printer didn't support that type of driver. He said only laser printers support that driver and he's sell me a laser printer for $350

Also, I've tried changing margins. This happens whether I print a postcard or letter, whatever.

I forgot to mention, I also can't do manual two sided printing even if it is selected in properties.
