My parents just purchased an HP computer set up at WalMart yesterday and I offered to hook it all up for them. I figured it would be an easy process and then they'd be up and running after a few minutes. Of course... nothing can be easy!!

The set up they bought is a P2-1033W. From what I'm reading online it does not have wirelesss connection capabilities so we'll have to use the old D-Link wireless adapter that they used on their old computer. I tried to install the software for the adapter, but keep getting an error message that it can't be installed because the PrismApi.DLL file is missing.

How can I fix this if I can't get the computer online to be able to download it?

Do you have a model number of the Dlink adapter and also what OS are you running Windows 7 32bit or 64bit?

It's a DWL-G120 and the computer is on Windows 7.

According to Microsoft, this adapter is not compatible with either the 32bit or 64bit version of Windows 7.

I would have to say you are running 64bit. You will need to know this for driver installation

Open System by clicking the Start button, right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties.

Under System, you can view the system type 32bit or 64bit.

I would recommend an adapter like this: Attached to the back USB port.

Well that really stinks! My parents aren't up to par on technology, neither am I, but I am the go to person so I help when I can. If the router they have is a D-Link, would the adapter you posted still work with it or will I need to buy them a whole new set up?

I would think the router would work but you can check at the site I linked to and input the make and model number of the computer. The web site of the router would also have info. What is the model of the router?

Edit: Yes, that adapter would work will any router.

Thank you so much for your help! My parents are now up and running! :)

I ended up getting them the TP-Link TL-WN821N 300Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter through Amazon because the one you linked to didn't say it was compatible with Windows 7 (at least not on the Amazon site). The one I got does. It cost a little more money, but it was worth it to not have to deal with any more hassles. It took me about 2 minutes to get the thing to work! All is good now! Thanks again! :)
