I heard that anyone with a Windows 2000 installation cdrom can break into my home, use it to boot up my generic pc (XP Pro SP2) even tho it's Admin privileges are password protected. Is all or part of that true? and, if so, what are some practical options. TIA for any info!

Anyone with a linux CD can do the same.
There is no such thing as a bullet-proof pc.

What are you trying to protect?

There are lots of ways to start a pc so that an intruder can run Windows and the programs.

That is why sensitive data should be encrypted. Windows XP has the ability to encrypt the data against all but the heaviest supercomputers.

Data that is encrypted cannot be accessed by intruders starting the pc abnormally.
