PRN as name

well i was gona install a game, it asked to wich folder install and i named it prn(to not write the full name out) , and it couldnt create the dir

when trying to rename a recently created folder to prn it didnt work, and renaming a file to like prn.jpg only brought the old file name back

dosprompt creating it didnt work eaither?

asked some freinds and they couldnt

so i wonder if any1 know why one cant name things prn(well atleast when having windoes software running)?

OS used winxp pro and 1 friend used ME

 

One of those reserved words (For the printer port LPT1) for MS-DOS compatiblity.

You can also not create a folder named CON either which is for the keyboard. COM1-9 and LPT1-LPT9 are also reserved.

The following copies the output from the keyboard to a file. If you write "hej" it will be written to the file. When you are finished writting things to the file press CTRL+Z.

copy con hej.txt
hej
CTRL+Z

Nice to know if you are in an extreme situation with no text-editor
