What games are you talking about?
Your system specs are pretty low for newer games especially if you are trying to run them on higher settings.

Make sure all your graphics drivers are up to date and try turning down the settings in game.

First off, you don't say how much RAM you have on ether system, or what games you're trying to play. RAM makes a big difference, and nearly any modern games needs a dual-core CPU to run well.

Time to upgrade your desktop, my friend.

    Bastard! :-D

What's your internet connection? If it only happens in multi-player or MMOs you might need a faster line. Since it's a desktop, is it connected via cable, or is it on wireless?

Oh, and what firewall and antivirus are you using?

I have a desktop sitting right behind the laptop I'm tying on, actually) that has 2GB RAM, a 7800GS and a 3GHz P4, and though I never played Allods seriously I did test it without issues, and I can play Runes of Magic maxed out without any lag or choppiness at all, even in very crowded areas.

Do you have Avast on the laptop as well? My desktop runs Avira.

Have you tried Ned's suggestion to turn down all your graphics settings, and did that make a difference?

i dont have laptop, with avira i had internet problems, which wore fixable by restarting router but that wasnt cool for me so no avira,i tryed yes i meassured my fps using fraps but it seems fps stays the same if video card settings is in hign and low,so i guiess it isnt that... i found somewhere a .bat file thing that rly improved my pc is started with @echo and the list was very long (it wasnt @echo /hign) it was somethign about winxp, but it was unstable gave me a eror ive never seen before ,and few hrs later my pc was overpowered with viruses and naked aisians :D but this rly made my pc run like new fps was 40+ all the time, now at crowdet areas i get 15-20 brrrrr thats ridicilous

So we're back to looking at your CPU then, it looks like... and yeah, I can see why Avira would be a bad choice.

You can try Microsoft Security Essentials for AV. It's light on resources, and lots of PC gamers seem to like it for that reason, but Avast isn't exactly a resource glutton either.

I assume you've tried reinstalling the video driver and DirectX?

over and over again :))) no change at all i dont get it isnt video card supose to be the most important for games? idk maby its the ram, proccesor ,os,mobo it could be any1 of those

Yes, and no. It helps, but ultimately, whether a game runs well on your PC or not is a result of all your components working together. A gaming PC is a sum of the parts inside the case, and it's more important to have a balance between them than anything else.

For example, what power supply do you have, and does it meet the minimum requirements for your new video card?

idk rly but the guys that choose my video card is a specialist so i guiess it couldnt be that ,im just watchign a video on CPU overclocking, what do u think about that? ive tryed gpu overclock but idnt see any difference!

its 400w Im watching a video about CPU overclocking what do u think will it help?

  15. Mimsy

400W is 100W over the card minimum requirements, so that's enough.

No, overclocking probably won't help. The bottom line is that you have a system with older hardware, and that means that it's weak by today's standards. Since all your games lag and stutter it's worth your while to take out the video card and thoroughly clean out the fan and heat sink on it, but if nothing helps, you might want to consider giving up on the desktop and just game on the laptop from here on.

Well lets put it this way, my rig is old and out dated, none of my parts are still made and most are impossible to find to buy...

    AMD Athlon X2 6000+ 3.1
    3GB 800mhz DDR2 RAM
    ATI HD4890 2GB vapor X

My specs stand way above yours and mine are old and out dated and I'm starting to struggle to run newer games on med-high settings.

Time for a new PC as Mimsy said ;)
