Probalem play DVDs

This just started up. I have many videos I have burned to DVD - about 20 to a disc. Each time a video ends a rectangular "gray-out" appears on the tv screen. You can see the image thru this gray-out, which takes up over half the area of the screen display.

I thought maybe this was confined to the videos, but then a Netflix movie arrived and the same thing happened to the movie.

I can depress the TV INPUT or FORMAT keys on the remote and the rectangle goes away. But it always returns in about 10 seconds (with the movies. The videos will play to the end before it appears).

Normal tv viewing is unaffected.

It seems to me this is a DVD player problem, but thought I'd check here before buying a new one.

 

(Sigh) Just tried it again and both videos and the movie are playing fine.

When/if the problem returns, having nothing else to try, I'll put fresh batteries in the remotes - although it's hard to see how weak batteries could cause this.
