Problem Accessing Safe Mode

Hi

Sorry if this has been asked before, couldn't find anything. I need to remove traces of Avast as when I did try to remove it it did not remove completely and although in the tray at the bottom, disabled, it is not in the add/remove programmes list, so cannot do it that way, and when I go in to other areas where I can find it and try to do anything I get Access denied. From what I can see I need to start the PC in Safe Mode to use the removal tool I have found, but when I access the advanced options screen using F5 or F8, I am unable to scroll to safe mode as the arrow keys will not function to do this. Is there any other way to either remove the traces of Avast, or another way of accessing safe mode.

What kind of keyboard do you have? As in does it have a round connector with small pins in it or a rectangular connector?

Okay, the inability to access safe mode may be due to this. Did the keyboard come with an adapter to PS/2 - the other connection type, or if not, do you have access to a PS/2 keyboard?

 

No, should I buy an adaptor? By PS/2 I gather you mean the connection type, not Playstation, sorry to seem dim

Adapters should be around £1 so are not expensive at all.

 

I will go to a computer shop and try and get one tomorrow, brill pic, thanks very much for going to the trouble of putting it on, as you gathered I need as much help as poss. Will let you know tomorrow if it has worked. Many thanks

Managed to obtain the adapter and hey presto, the keyboard arrows now work on the advanced options screen, got in via safe mode and avast now removed. Thanks very much.
