Problem .AVI files and Roxio EMC

Friends: I have some .AVI clip files installed which I play with VLC media player with no problem. I then installed Roxio EMC 8 and I find I cannot play the clips no more because I am getting a pop up Windows Explorer screen saying: "Windows encountered a problem and needs to close..." The desktop then repaints itself. I tried uninstalling and re-installing Roxio EMC 7 and 10 with same results. Any suggestions how to fix this? Windows XP Pro SP2Thanks.

 

Update XP and get SP3. Check for driver updates at the computer manufacturer's site. Update all 3d party software via Secunia PSI: http://majorgeeks.com/Secunia_Personal_Software_Inspector_PSI_d6096.html

Check that you meet the system requirements for Roxio EMC: http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/creator/suite/system-requirements.html

 

ignore cordialis hes is just spaming stuff that has nothing todo with the issue your having

the issue your haveing is a well known bug with windows xp's avi/image thumb nail previews

typing this command in the run bar on your start menu will disable it and SHOULD stop it from crashing

regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll

and

regsvr32 shmedia.dll to turn it back on again

My Friends: Many thanks for your prompt responses. I tried typing regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll in the RUN field and it worked. Was just about to go bonkers on this. You guys are the best. Thanks again. Cheers!!!
