problem connecting a laptop to a pc

i cant seem to get workgroups to work on a desktop and laptop pc. i can always get the pc to see the laptop but the laptop always comes up with an error saysing it doesnt have permission to acces the network. i have even tried hooking the two directly together using a crossover cable and used two seperate laptops and always have this problem. anyone have any ideas as to why it might do this.

 

Are you using a router to connect? When connecting with a Crossover cable, you have to statically assign IPs or use ICS. When hooked to a router, do both machines get IPs, is there Firewall software running on the machines?

Problem networking Desk and lap pc

The access denied error prob is VERY common. I have the same problem andhave been trying to resolve it for months. No joy. On my wireless network I can see the other computer but am denied access to files etc. I havr googled thiis problem and tried dozens of "solutions". No joy.

I am commonly told that this is not usually a problem with Windows XP Pro rather than Home edition. Whether this is true or not, I don't know.

try enabiling the guest account on both computers. and make sure the firewall on the computer that you cant see is set to allow your ip to be seen that will solve the problems

I don't have the guest accounts enabled on either system at present. I will give it a go and let ya know how it went.
