    Hello Geeks.
    Happy new year all.

I have a problem connecting to www.lazyfoo.net! I can ping the website successfully without losses AND I can trace the route to the website without losses.
I cannot connect only to this website.
    I have tried the following:

Reset the router settings - did not work.
Flushed the DNS through command prompt (ipconfig /flushdns) - did not work.
Disabled FIREWALL, Anti-Virus program - did not work.
Tried connecting directly to the IP - did not work.
Tried connecting the internet cable directly to the computer - did not work.
Tried reseting win sockets - did not work.
Checked hosts file for corruption - did not work.
Tried scanning for malware/spyware software - nothing found/did not work.
Tried connecting through different web browsers - did not work.
Contacted my ISP - they did not find anything unusual. They could not help me find out what is going on. Did not work.
Tried changing security options in browsers - did not work.
Tried connecting directly to the Internet(not through a proxy) - did not work.
Tried smashing the keyboard - did not work (jk :-o )

Only I am having this problem.
A few friends tried connecting to the website - worked for them.
My ISP tried connecting to the website - worked for them.
Being able to connect to the website was my wish for Christmas - Santa did not fulfill it.

I am waiting for more suggestions that might help me solve the problem.

    Thank you!

Did you check your hosts file to see if there is anything there or did I miss that in your list?

    Hey there Major Attitude!

Hosts file, I know where it is I know how to edit it but but exactly does it do?

When a DNS query is involved the host file can be used to set local DNS record mappings before a DNS server is queried.

For example if I add an entry like this:
    www.google.com 205.252.89.47

When you attempt to visit google it would actually bring up thinkgeek.

Excellently put!!! thanks for the clear answer.

this explains why my Apache server was failing, I figured out it was a host file issue because of an entry made by a piece of software i was installing.
I removed the entry and Apache was to be found once again.

i'll take a leap here then Sputum,

Have you possibly cracked any software or has some sort malware infection lately?

open a word pad as administrator and browse to host file C:Windows\system32\drivers\etc check and edit your host file if necessary

Has it somehow been added to the block list in your router?

Most likely not blocked by the router as I have tried connecting the cable directly to the PC and I still could not open the website. Also I reset the router, but that did not help as well.

one last thought, have they blocked you?
blocked your ip? Maybe in error? You could log in from else where and email them?
If you unplug your router for a while and reset it again
as long as you are on a dynamic connection to your ISP
you will likely get a new IP try that!

although the MAC address of your router might be logged too!
Try a different one if you can

DNS is my first thought too, tgell. Site worked for me but I could make it fail if I entered the IP that it pings.

Sputum, try changing your DNS server to 4.2.2.2 just temporarily to test, do not leave it as that number. If that works, you can try different DNS servers from your ISP or an open DNS server.

    Did not work.
I recently found that I can't connect to another website: www.libsdl.org
I was able to connect to it a few months ago, but now I can't :cry

Nope. I tried with and without proxy. Nothing helped!

P.S. Sorry for the late reply!
